Statement.

It all starts with the tendency to declutter.

When I create landscape photography through digital technologies, I can’t stop the impulse to make cleaner compositions in which the coexisting thoughts of peace and happiness can be highly emphasized. As Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (the author of The Little Prince) once said: “Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.

Beauty through tranquility in nature always provides a great level of comfort to the human soul. To accomplish the ideal final composition, I use Photoshop as my paintbrush to edit the photographs for the purpose of promoting the most concise and clear appearance in the work. Instead of creating drama, the digital technologies are utilized to ensure the wonderful colors and atmosphere from the natural environment. After all, have you noticed how many colors there are in the sky?

Inspired by Chinese painting and calligraphy, the negative space (white space) of the work is considered part of the composition, rather than merely empty space. In addition, different from most of western art work, vertical composition is commonly used in traditional Chinese painting for landscape works. To further the notion of poetic presentation, I print the photographs on archival watercolor paper. The texture of the sheet delivers the lightness of the colors within the image that are often challenging to translate from the computer screen to print.
